Hello, Professor Chapman! I first read this post when I was getting inspiration from your website for the Substack assignment in the Writing for the Mass Media class I took this past spring. Usually when I have been gone to Islands of Adventure, I have overlooked these details walking from one ride to the next. But when I went to Universal this summer, I was on the lookout for all the characters I had never noticed before, especially The Phantom!
It is truly remarkable how much history influenced the cartoons featured in Toon Lagoon. It brings a whole new layer of discovery and fascination while walking through the land. Toon Lagoon is actually my favorite land at Universal, even more after learning about its historical significance.
Hey there Wyatt, thanks for stopping by and reading and commenting. It’s good to hear from you and I’m glad you liked the story. This was a fun one to write. I’m due for another story soon just a bit busy teaching summer classes. I hope you’re writing journey is going spectacular.
You are so very welcome, thank you so much for reading. It was a lot of fun to write and photograph. So many old memories that should definitely not be forgotten.
This is the kind of essay I wish I'd see more often on Substack sites--insightful and with a lot of heart. I really liked your comments on nostalgia, and let's hope the pure joy and energy of comic strips never goes away.
Thank you so much for reading. It’s been there for a while. It’s just a Small area of the park and, unless you really pay attention and look up, you won’t really know you’re walking through.
I’m glad you liked learning about the small little strip in islands of adventure. It’s really nice and neat and colorful and vibrant, but sometimes you don’t even know you’re there, unless you really paying attention.
I have struggling with a virus since Saturday and those colorful signs and the sunny landscape brightened my day. I even spied my beloved Pogo, whose books I’ve been picking up for a year or so.

Well, then, that is the reason why I wrote this and included the photographs, to make somebody (you) feel
good and remember good things. 😊😊 feel better!
