I’ve never heard of Chosen but have travelled the roads you described for 20+ years going to visit my mom in Lehigh Acres before she moved back to Germany. I don’t know how many times I took SR 80 across the State and passed through Belle Glade, South Bay, Clewiston and so on. It’s so hard to imagine that parts of that area belong to Palm Beach County.

Well, the reason why, you’ve never heard of a place called chosen, because it was wiped off the map at 1928. So it no longer exists, but the land is still there of course and you can read about it in history books. Pretty interesting stuff and yes I agree it’s an odd part of Palm Beach County, but beautiful.

If only people would spend time exploring natural and historical Florida instead of wasting time at Disney World.

Lara Chapman's avatar

Indeed! But Universal Studios isn’t so bad 😉

Agreed.

I am also learning as I go, Florida has a rich history, and there are so many stories to tell. Thank you for reading and commenting, have a beautiful day.

Too bad about DeSantis...He is a prize schmuck.

Lara Chapman's avatar

I’m really glad my children got to stay in school though during the awful school closures in other states. So for that I’m truly grateful for DeSantis. No doubt.

Well, that is a real positive part. Maybe he was dead right about that. I sure don't now enough about epidemics.

Yes, I think some people are very upset that he’s trying to ban porn books in elementary schools, but I just focus on the fact that my kids got to stay in school and my mom‘s business got to stay open, when, in other states, they were all shut down, and it was very authoritarian. 👍👍

Fantastic Lara! I love stories about the old Florida! Thank you. S. Nefzger

So many secrets to unlock with Old Florida!! This is an exceptional state with stories to tell. Thanks for reading, Susan!

He probably should’ve stayed out of the presidential race, However, as a lot of people are upset with him over that. We shall see.

I grew up in Belle Glade, and the first house we lived in was known as being in Chosen. It was on Canal Street on the way to Torry Island. I vividly remember my dad saying we lived in Chosen. I enjoyed your article. There are a lot of people there who have lived there all their lives who could share all kinds of info on the history.

Hi Rick, wow, that's neat to hear! Torry Island is a hidden gem, I think. Not too many people know about it Thanks for reading and commenting!

Both very positive outcomes from a dreadful time. I agree on porn books in elementary schools. I try to keep an open mind, especially on topics I don't really know the true details of.

Lara, I see that you Restack things. What does that do?

When restacking an article, it just shares it with my subscribers, who are also on Substack. So when you restack an article, you basically share it with the Substack network. 😀😀
